Calico Super Micro Finishing (SMF) is a unique surface finishing technology that combines chemical and mechanical processes to remove microscopic peaks and component stresses by eliminating stress risers generated during machining operation. A minimal amount of material removal (3/10000 of an inch) leaves an isotropic or uniform surface finish of less than 1 micro-inch.

Calico Super Micro Finishing (SMF) is achieved through a multi-step, chemically accelerated vibratory process. This unique process removes the 'peaks' that remain after manufacturing of any machined metal component and creates a uniform finish. This process is then followed by a mechanical diamond polish that gives the part a high luster finish.
